What is Kulturnatta?
Umeå Kulturnatta is an annual mega-event, a celebration of culture and creativity in Umeå, Sweden. It's a day with a large variety of activities in the central area of Umeå City. The activities can be, for example, exhibitions, stage performances and other activities that can be categorized as cultural events. Art, music, dance, film and acting are types of activities that can definitely be considered cultural in nature, but other expressions are welcome too.
All activities included in the official Kulturnatta program are free to visit - that is: they are presented without a fee for the visitors. We believe that no one should be excluded from experiencing the rich cultural life of Umeå Kulturnatta for economic reasons.
Kulturnatta has been an annual event since 2005. In previous years, we've had about 300 different events in one day. All activities are planned and realized by different organizers - companies, associations, the municipality and others - and each organizer decides themselves what activities to host. The organizers inform the central group of Kulturnatta what activities they have planned, so that they can be included in the overall list of activities that is later announced to the public.
If you want to visit Kulturnatta's activities
On our website, you will find the list of activities when it's finished. This will be some time in the beginning of May. Our ambition is to present the activities in English as well this year, so that more people can enjoy the variety of events. However, this will depend on our resources at the time. There will also be a printed program, but that will only be available in Swedish.
If you want to perform or otherwise participate as an artist
There are several different ways in which you can participate. The easiest is perhaps to make an agreement with an association or a company that already has premises in central Umeå. That means that you or the organization make sure that the equipment needed is in place, that you have instruments, lighting and so on, as per your needs. Once everything is agreed on, one of you needs to contact us at sandra@kulturnatta.com to inform us what to put in the list of activities.
Another option is to speak to us directly, letting us know what it is you do and that you want to participate in Kulturnatta. We will then attempt to find a place and an organizer that suits you. There is no guarantee for success, though, but we always try our best to help.
If you want to participate as an organizer
Indoors/your own venue: If you arrange a place to hold your activities, the needed equipment and so on, and you're not outdoors or need any help at all, you can just go ahead and plan your activities! Make sure you tell us about your activities, so we can include them in the list.
Outdoors: If you want to organize activities outdoors, need help with finding a place to be, need help with equipment or anything else, contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to help you!
